Ritual Performance/Installation Exhibition August 19-September 30, 2005 THE ARTS FUND GALLERY, Santa Barbara, California "Hate never ends by hate, but by love alone does hatred end." These words of the Buddha inspired Barbara Parmet to create the BURNING LOVE PROJECT. Parmet uses the physical, psychological, political and spiritual chaos of the earth as raw material for the BURNING LOVE PROJECT. The project is in three sections. In the first part, Parmet built an 8 foot sphere made of dead eucalyptus branches tied together with 5000 feet of twine. The second part included a ritual performance with the help of friends who moved the 350 pound sculpture to a beach where it was stuffed with newspapers. Finally, the structure and all the chaos it represents was set fire in order to be transformed into light and love. The exhibition includes photographic prints and video footage of the ritual performance. |
